We represent many types of nonprofit organizations, including educational foundations and other public charities, private foundations, trade associations, religious organizations, public financing corporations, and public and private educational institutions. Many of our attorneys have advanced degrees in taxation, which enable them to advise clients on tax issues/requirements applicable to nonprofit organizations. We assist clients with establishing nonprofit organizations and obtaining tax-exempt status, with mergers and joint ventures between nonprofit organizations, and with dissolutions of nonprofit organizations. We also advise clients as to good governance matters, IRS reporting requirements, membership rights and related membership issues, board fiduciary duties and conflicts of interest, permissible political activities, as well as many other operational issues.
