October 21, 2025 | 8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.

This focused training is designed for individuals serving as Title IX Appeal Officers in K-12 school districts and county offices of education. The session provides a clear overview of the appeal process under current Title IX regulations and equips participants with the tools to manage appeals fairly, lawfully, and within the limited scope required.

Topics Covered:

  • The role of the Appeal Officer and how it fits within the broader Title IX team

  • Distinguishing between appeals of dismissals and appeals of final decisions

  • Review of the Title IX definition of sexual harassment as it applies in appeal evaluations

  • Grounds for appeal, applicable procedures, and the limited scope of review

  • Best practices for impartial review and documentation of appeal decisions

  • Practical considerations, legal pitfalls, and procedural safeguards

  • Application of learning through discussion of hypothetical case scenarios

This session provides the clarity and confidence Appeal Officers need to make sound, legally defensible decisions while maintaining fairness and integrity throughout the process.
