The Focus:

Addressing disciplinable behaviors of students who are or may be eligible for special education can be daunting without a good working knowledge of the legal requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (“IDEA”) and California law pertaining to student discipline.

This comprehensive presentation was developed for veterans of special education and/or student discipline. Attendees will be guided through key requirements of the IDEA and California law. This is an interactive presentation in which participants will have the opportunity to engage the presenters and refine practical strategies to address student behavior, the discipline of students, and development of oliciesto ensure the safety and security of pupils.

Topics covered will include the rights and responsibilities of LEAs, Interim Alternative Educational Settings (“IAES”), Manifestation Determination Reviews (“MDR”), expulsion proceedings, appeals processes, and addressing behaviors through the Individualized Education Program (“IEP”) process.
