Overview

Tivonna Stern represents employers in all aspects of labor and employment law matters. Ms. Stern has significant experience providing insight and guidance on compliance with federal and state local labor and employment laws, such as the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Meyers-Milias-Brown Act (Brown Act), conducting and overseeing workplace investigations, and more. Her experience also includes representing agencies in arbitrations, mediations, and disciplinary appeal hearings, as well as advising on issues pertaining to employee performance management and discipline, responses to charges filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), California Civil Right Department (CRD), Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), review of policies and procedures, and more.

Prior to joining AALRR, Ms. Stern acted as a Senior Deputy County Counsel with the Alameda County Counsel’s Office where she advised multiple agencies in all areas of labor and employment law. Prior to her time with the County, she was a Senior Associate with a law firm where she provided labor and employment advice and counsel, conducted external workplace investigations, and served as general counsel for public agencies. Ms. Stern also has vast experience serving as in-house counsel for multiple public agencies throughout Northern California.
