Overview

Mae Alberto serves as Of Counsel in our Private Labor & Employment practice group. With significant experience in law and motion work and appellate litigation, Ms. Alberto primarily handles the drafting of complex dispositive motions, including summary judgment motions and motions to dismiss in both federal and state courts. She works on cases with claims and legal issues involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination. Ms. Alberto also consults on appellate issues and assists in the preparation of appellate briefs.

Prior to joining AALRR, she worked in the law and motion, writs and appeals team at an insurance civil defense firm, where her focus areas included governmental entity and religious institution defense, premises liability and elder abuse cases. Ms. Alberto successfully prepared and argued dispositive and non-dispositive motions, including motions to compel, demurrers and summary judgment motions. She is well versed in evidentiary issues, and also often provided trial support to the various legal teams at the firm. Ms. Alberto prepared and argued motions in limine, and drafted jury instructions and special verdict forms.

Prior to working at the insurance defense firm, Ms. Alberto had her own practice focused on criminal appeals. As part of Ms. Alberto’s appellate practice, she also provided law and motion, trial, and appellate support to other criminal defense attorneys. Ms. Alberto has substantial experience in devising case strategies, investigation, and discovery matters. Ms. Alberto's experience in handling complex criminal cases included death penalty litigation, RICO matters, white collar offenses and major narcotics. In addition to handling appeals and writs in the superior courts, state court of appeals, and the Ninth Circuit, Ms. Alberto has served as co-counsel on three federal capital habeas cases. Ms. Alberto was also on the panels for the appellate divisions of the Los Angeles Superior Court, Riverside Superior Court, San Bernardino Superior Court, as well as the California Appellate Project - Los Angeles.

Ms. Alberto taught an advanced legal writing course at Glendale University College of Law.
