AALRR Attorney Meredith Brown Elected to Represent Association of Community College Trustees

10.12.2016

On October 6th, Meredith Brown, a partner in Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo’s Pleasanton office, was elected Pacific Region Diversity Committee Representative for the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). The ACCT is a nonprofit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1,200 community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States and internationally.

Brown previously served as Board President and Vice-President of the Peralta Community College District. She is also past President and current Secretary to the African-American California Community College Trustees, and Vice-chair of the ACCT African-American Caucus.

“I am honored and eager to serve as a representative for the ACCT,” Brown said. “During my two-year term, I hope to promote affordable education, diversity, inclusivity, and best practices to increase enrollment, retention, and graduation rates for students who are underrepresented in higher education.”

Brown’s service to the ACCT is one of many ways she has worked to improve educational opportunities. As an attorney with expertise in education law, Brown has drafted successful bond measures for public schools, negotiated funding for sports fields and a public library, and given presentations on hiring diverse faculty and on Title IX compliance. Brown also has volunteered with the Oakland public schools’ literacy program.
