AALRR Ranked Top 5 in the Nation for Ethnic Diversity on the American Lawyer’s 2023 Diversity Scorecard
CERRITOS, CA, June 2, 2023 — Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo (AALRR), a leading full-service law firm in California, has been named one of the top 5 law firms in the nation in The American Lawyer’s 2023 Diversity Scorecard, a ranking of law firms based on the percentage of diverse lawyers in their U.S. offices. This is AALRR’s first year appearing on The Am Law 200 list and the Diversity Scorecard.
The Diversity Scorecard tracks racial and ethnic diversity across firm leadership, equity partners and other lawyers at the Am Law 200 and National Law Journal 250 firms. More than 225 of the nation's largest law firms were evaluated and ranked, with the lowest number ranking being the best. To determine the rankings, The American Lawyer goes beyond overall numbers and partner headcounts.
According to The American Lawyer, the Diversity Scorecard was updated in 2022 “to reflect the need for firms to be truly diverse rather than concentrate their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts on any one ethnic group.” The Scorecard was revamped to emphasize diversity across an organization’s entire complement of attorneys, with a focus on diversity in leadership roles. Participating law firms are ranked using a series of metrics assessing their racial and ethnic diversity across lawyer headcount by firm leadership, equity partners, practice groups, and hiring, retention, and promotion of diverse talent.
As demonstrated by the numerous accolades for its diversity, AALRR has built a strong reputation in California and across the nation for its diverse team of preeminent attorneys who provide expert advice to public and private sector clients. AALRR’s diverse attorneys represent a rich mix of races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, cultures, and languages, which helps facilitate communication and understanding the perspectives of the firm’s clients and the communities they serve. AALRR’s impressive Diversity Scorecard ranking is the result of sustained engagement of its firm leaders and a comprehensive set of DEI initiatives designed to build on the firm’s long-standing commitment to the recruitment, retention, and promotion of diverse lawyers, and to foster an inclusive and supportive work environment where diverse attorneys can thrive and succeed.
“Throughout its history, AALRR has received numerous awards extolling the firm’s accomplishments regarding diversity; we are extremely proud and grateful to also be included as one of the nation’s top five diverse law firms by The American Lawyer,” said Managing Partner James Baca. “Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values at AALRR. By embracing diversity, promoting equality, and fostering inclusivity, AALRR has been able to recruit and retain a diverse pool of the best and brightest attorneys in the nation, whose diverse perspectives drive excellence, collaboration and innovative solutions for our clients’ legal needs, while making a real impact on the greater community and legal profession.”
