Overview
Aemen Shahbaz represents California school districts, community college districts, charter schools, and county offices of education in general education law and employment law matters. Ms. Shahbaz’s practice includes matters involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, student discipline, litigation, and wage and hour compliance. She also represents clients in facilities, construction, and real estate matters including procurement, contracting, and construction administration, as well as compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Prior to joining AALRR, Ms. Shahbaz practiced civil litigation at a private law firm, wherein she advised clients on complex civil matters from early case assessment through resolution, handled motion practice and discovery, and prepared research memoranda on contract interpretation, indemnity obligations, and other contract issues.
Ms. Shahbaz brings significant public agency experience to her practice. As a legal intern with the California Department of State Hospitals, she conducted research on regulatory compliance, healthcare law, and data privacy; drafted petitions for matters before superior courts and administrative entities; and collaborated with the Office of the Attorney General and the Office of Administrative Law on cross-functional projects involving the development and interpretation of agency policies and regulations. She also served as an extern with the Sacramento County Public Defender’s Office, where she represented clients at arraignments and pretrial proceedings, and interned at the California State Capitol in the office of Assemblymember Evan Low, gaining firsthand insight into the legislative process. A Sacramento native, Ms. Shahbaz is committed to serving the public agencies and communities of Northern California.
