Irma Rodríguez Moisa Named to "2009 California Top Women Litigators"

May 2009

Cerritos, CA (May 15, 2009)--Cerritos partner, Irma Rodríguez Moisa, has been named to the Daily Journal’s annual listing of the “Top Women Litigators” in California.  Ms. Rodríguez Moisa was recognized for her recent employment victories on behalf of Ralphs Grocery Company.  These sexual harassment cases resulted in a jury verdict and an arbitration award for Ralphs.

“Irma is an extremely skilled litigator.  Her deft ability to create a solid case strategy makes her a valuable asset to our practice,” stated Bob Wenzel, Partner and Employment Law Practice Chair.  “Clients appreciate her commitment to their business needs and want her on their legal team.”

This year, the Daily Journal selected 102 women litigators to honor.  With more than 160,000 active total lawyers in California, it is a significant accomplishment to be recognized as one of the best.  “I am thrilled to be a part of a group of attorneys being celebrated for their commitment to high quality legal work and service to their clients,” stated Ms. Rodríguez Moisa.

The first Ralphs case, a five-day jury trial, resulted in the jury resoundingly rejecting the sexual harassment claims raised by the plaintiff, a former Ralphs grocery clerk.  The jury found that plaintiff’s claims were inconsistent with plaintiff’s own interactions with the accused harasser.

The second Ralphs case, a three-day arbitration, resulted in a complete vindication of Ralphs on all claims raised by the plaintiff, a Ralphs deli clerk.  The arbitrator found the plaintiff’s testimony was implausible and possibly intentionally false due to the lack of corroborative witnesses.

Ms. Rodríguez Moisa has handled over 100 litigation-related matters involving discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, disability discrimination, retaliation and other related causes of action.  She has served as lead counsel in numerous cases that have proceeded to trial and has tried numerous cases in front of arbitrators, civil service commissions, personnel boards and other administrative agencies.  Her defense of both private and public employers has resulted in summary judgments, verdicts, arbitration awards, and other favorable settlements.

She is a well-respected speaker/trainer and active member of numerous community organizations.  Ms. Rodríguez Moisa earned a Bachelor of Science degree from U.C. Berkeley, her law degree from U.C. Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law, and a Master’s in Public Policy degree from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
